Esko Aho

Esko Aho is a Finnish politician who was Prime Minister of Finland. He is a graduate of the University of Helsinki.

What’s remarkable about Aho is that he started his political career even before he became a university undergraduate. From 1974 to 1979, he was Chairman of the Finnish Centre Youth. He became a Presidential elector in 1978, 1982 and 1998. From 1979 to 1980, Aho was Political Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1980 to 1983, he was a trade promoter for the Kannus municipality. From 1990 to 2002, he served as Chairman of the Centre Party. In 1991, Aho made history by becoming the youngest Finnish Prime Minister at 36 years of age. He served in this position until 1995.

The Kennedy of Kannus as he is fondly called, became Nokia’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Relations and Responsibility in 2008. He is now retired from daily politics.
